We were inspired by a short article about a Philadelphia Pizzeria that allowed customers to pay it forward in slices of pizza to other people. A member of the team has even experienced food insecurity before and an option like this website would have alleviated the pressures of it.
What it does
This web app is used to target/help the food insecure and homeless also to spread positivity. Similar in the aspect of paying for someone’s Starbucks drink in the drive-thru, users will be able to donate to local restaurants after ordering their meal and people who are food insecure can register on the web app to redeem the funds to obtain their own meal.
How we built it
Challenges we ran into
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We had a great time interacting with each other and learning how to code together! We all found true spirit in collaborating even if our experience put us at a disadvantage compared to other teams. We have great passion in what we did and we are proud that we went out of our comfort zone to attempt something meaningful to us.
What we learned
What's next for Forward 4 Food
After this Hackathon, we hope to stay in contact to move forward with plans. One action item we have is to implement a reward system in our web app that will encourage customers to pay it forward for points that can be redeemed for coupons at restaurants. For example, a member that gets 400 points for paying it forward can redeem that for a free french fry with their next meal. Next, we plan to integrate Yelp API and Twilio API into our code/system and polish our web app. Also implementing Stripe API in order to protect any transactions made in checkout.
