Inspiration

We were inspired by previous games, such as Pokemon Mystery Dungeon. We wanted to entertain people in a similar manner by creating a RPG with different features.

How it works

The RPG game our team devised intended to be single player, on the computer, and span 10-20 minutes. As a roguelike, each time the game is run, the grid base map layout, avatars, and enemies would be unique, making it very replayable. The goal of the game is to defeat the enemies (mage, swordsman, and archer) while moving your character with arrow keys and gathering money and items to meet a quota in order to the achieve the end prize.

Challenges I ran into

The coding for the sprites was a major challenge, especially when putting these images at specific locations in the map. The movement of the avatars was also a difficult challenge, specifically regarding object collision between the characters and enemies.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

We're proud of coding with a goal in mind together as a team without making many syntax errors. Even though we did not have enough time to incorporate all the elements of the game, the code we had finished still worked.

What I learned

Most of the team members learned how to code in Java for the first time since it was a language that we were not familiar with. We also learned how to deal with the challenges we faced as a team and with the help of mentors. Most of all, we learned to make a solid yet simple plan and fail right from the start before adding layers to our design.

What's next for Fortress of Fortune (Roguelike RPG Game)

We hope to add more levels to the game and possibly animate it as well. We also intend to use the Myo Armband so the players can attack their enemies by flexing their arms while wearing this technology.
