Inspiration
To go with this year’s UofTHacks theme “connectivity” and TELUS’s advocation of using technology to improve mental health, we created a timeless space for participants to care for themselves.
What it does
Fort Awesome: Welcome to the Communitea manages records of tea-drinking experiences. As more tea lovers join, this virtual tea club will get powered up, providing more opportunities to connect for the tea lovers.
How we built it
We used HTML to structure the website, CSS to add visual elements, SQL for the database, and Python and PHP for support and alternatives.
Challenges we ran into
Due to our lack of experience, connecting the project's front and back end was a major challenge for us.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
As first-time hackers, we have now got much stronger grasps at how full-stack project development should look. We kept trying different approaches, programming languages, developmental tools, and communication methods. We're proud to have completed a viable demo.
What we learned
We learned the basics of SQL and PHP, setting up a website and server, and front-end web design with HTML, CSS, and javascript. We have also figured that it might take a long time for our codes to meet in the project if we work from the front and the back. In the future, we can start together and then develop code in different directions.
What's next for Fort Awesome: Welcome to the Communitea
We recognize and value the importance of caring for oneself and caring for one another. Therefore, we will look into enriching our users’ experience by providing tailored content when more user data become available.
