Inspiration

As an Associate Professor of Pharmaceutics teaching Cosmetic Science to B.Pharm students, I saw a real problem daily — cosmetic entrepreneurs and indie beauty brands paying $200-500/hour to cosmetic chemists just to design a basic formulation. Students had no hands-on tool to practice formulation design. FormulAI Studio was built to democratize access to professional cosmetic formulation knowledge.

What it does

FormulAI Studio generates complete professional cosmetic formulations in seconds. Users select product type, skin type, and main concern — the app outputs a full INCI ingredient table (Phase A/B/C), manufacturing steps, EU Cosmetic Regulation 1223/2009 compliance check, stability testing protocol, and an ingredient encyclopedia with mechanism of action data.

How we built it

Built entirely using MeDo's Deep Build feature with zero coding. Used multi-turn chat to iteratively construct each of the 5 modules — formulation generator, regulatory checker, manufacturing steps guide, stability testing checklist, and ingredient encyclopedia. MeDo handled all full-stack generation automatically from natural language prompts.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge was encoding pharmaceutical-grade formulation logic into natural language prompts — ensuring Phase A/B/C grouping was correct, concentrations totaled 100%, and regulatory compliance logic matched EU Annex II/III requirements. Iterative multi-turn prompting in MeDo helped resolve these issues efficiently.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Successfully built a 5-module professional cosmetic formulation platform with zero code in just a few hours. The regulatory compliance checker and manufacturing steps guide — features that typically require years of pharmaceutical training — were generated accurately by MeDo from domain-specific prompts.

What we learned

Domain expertise dramatically improves no-code AI outputs. As a pharmaceutical educator, structuring prompts with precise scientific terminology — INCI nomenclature, EU regulation numbers, phase chemistry — produced professional-grade results that generic prompts cannot achieve.

What's next for FormulAI Studio — AI Cosmetic Formulation Designer

Planned features include batch size scaling calculator, formulation cost estimator, supplier recommendations, COSMOS natural certification checker, user accounts to save formulations, and integration with live EU ingredient restriction databases. Long-term goal is to become the go-to free formulation tool for cosmetic startups globally.
