About the Project

Inspiration

Many people struggle to understand forms because of complicated language, unfamiliar fields, and uncertainty about which documents are required. This can make simple form-filling tasks confusing and time-consuming.

We built FormHelp AI to make forms easier to understand, especially for users who prefer to read information in their own language.

What the Project Does

FormHelp AI is an AI-powered multilingual form assistance platform. Users can upload a form, and the system extracts the text using OCR. The extracted content can then be translated into the user's selected language.

The platform also provides field guidance and helps identify information about required documents. A voice/read-aloud feature helps make the translated information easier to access.

How We Built It

The project uses a web-based frontend with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, connected to a Python Flask backend.

The main workflow is:

  1. User uploads a form.
  2. OCR extracts the text from the uploaded document.
  3. The extracted text is displayed to the user.
  4. The user selects a preferred language.
  5. Form content and guidance are translated.
  6. Voice assistance can read the translated content aloud.

Challenges

One of the main challenges was connecting the frontend and backend reliably while handling OCR results and multilingual content. Another challenge was making sure that dynamically generated OCR results also respond correctly when the user changes the selected language.

What We Learned

Through this project, we learned how to connect a frontend application with a Flask backend, integrate OCR and translation functionality, handle dynamic content, and build a more accessible user experience for multilingual users.

Future Improvements

We plan to improve form-field detection, support more document formats and languages, and make the guidance more intelligent and personalized.
