Inspiration

We were inspired by how often students struggle with government and college forms—not because they lack eligibility, but because the instructions are unclear. We’ve seen peers miss scholarships or face rejections due to simple form errors. This friction felt unnecessary and fixable.

What it does

FormFix helps students complete complex government and institutional forms correctly by breaking them into clear, step-by-step explanations. It highlights common mistakes, lists required documents in advance, and improves accessibility for first-time users.

How we built it

We started by analyzing real student-facing forms and identifying where users get confused. We mapped each form field to a plain-language explanation and designed a guided flow that mirrors how students think, rather than how institutions write forms.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge was balancing simplicity with accuracy. Official forms use precise language, and simplifying it without changing meaning required careful interpretation and validation against official sources.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Clearly defining a real, high-impact friction point

Designing a realistic MVP that students could actually use

Creating a solution focused on prevention, not damage control

Keeping privacy and accessibility central to the design

What we learned

We learned that many system failures aren’t technical—they’re communication problems. Small improvements in clarity can save users hours of time and reduce stress, errors, and inequality in access.

What's next for FormFix

Next, we plan to pilot FormFix with one high-impact student form, test it with real users, and refine explanations based on confusion points. Long-term, FormFix could expand to multiple forms and languages while staying lightweight and accessible.
