Inspiration

As a team of Latinos and immigrants, we’ve lived through the stress, confusion, and urgency of navigating USCIS and other U.S. government processes. The paperwork is overwhelming, typing the same information over and over, hunting for documents, worrying about mistakes, and feeling lost in outdated, clunky websites. We’ve paid thousands in legal fees just to avoid getting something wrong. And beyond the money, the biggest cost is time, the most valuable asset we have. Hours lost to forms, corrections, and searches that shouldn’t take more than minutes. We created Forma because we believe government processes shouldn’t feel terrifying. They should feel clear, modern, and human.

What it does

Forma is an AI-powered guide that turns any government workflow (immigration, SBA loans, FEMA relief, healthcare, benefits) into a simple, conversational journey. Users answer friendly questions, Forma auto-fills the correct forms, identifies needed documents, interprets rules in plain language, and prepares everything for submission. It replaces confusion with clarity and saves people time, stress, and unnecessary legal costs.

How we built it

We combined multiple AI models to read, interpret, and structure complex government instructions. We created a step-by-step conversational interface, designed to guide users through each requirement with confidence. We built automated form-fill pipelines, document extraction tools, and a clean design system focused on accessibility. Everything is built with simplicity, empathy, and legal accuracy in mind.

Challenges we ran into

Government forms are inconsistent: different formats, rules, dependencies, and edge cases. Many instructions are written in legalese, which AI must translate into friendly, accurate guidance. Designing an interface that feels simple while handling complexity behind the scenes was another major challenge. Ensuring reliability, safety, and user trust has been central to everything we built.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We turned processes that usually take hours or days into guided experiences that take minutes. We built a system that understands government rules, auto-populates documents, and reduces user error. Most importantly, we created something that people from our own communities tested and said, “I wish this existed years ago.” That’s the impact we’re most proud of.

What we learned

We learned how deeply government complexity affects everyday life, and how much relief people feel when the process is finally clear. We learned that trust, transparency, and simplicity matter more than features. And we learned that AI, when used responsibly, can meaningfully improve access to essential government services.

What's next for Forma

Next, we’re expanding to more federal, state, and local workflows, partnering with agencies to reduce errors and increase throughput. With our core platform launched, advanced document intelligence live, multilingual support in progress, mobile apps coming next, and direct agency integrations and an AI case manager on the way, we’re building toward a single seamless experience.

We want to become the universal entry point for any government process, simple, guided, and accessible to everyone. Our goal is bold but clear: Forma will be the clean, modern front door to government processes, saving millions of people time, stress, and money.
