Forklore

Forklore is a digital cookbook application that is designed to bring the comfort and memories of traditional cookbooks to the digital world. Our research revealed that many people have switched to online recipes while disregarding physical cookbooks due to convenience. Physical cookbooks offer this tangible experience where people are able to connect to their sense of culture and history. On a deeper level, family cookbooks have that emotional connection of handwritten notes and recipes that have been passed down for generations. Folklore preserves these elements that people miss with just an online recipe. Forklore is an application where it is not just about food but also about maintaining the emotional essense of physical cookbooks. Our design process began with incorporating warm earth toned colors to our interface that evokes users' nostalgia of old school cooking. We added small details such as page turning animations and social features allowing family members to comment or add a voice note, which replicates the handwritten notes in the margins of physical cookbooks. For typography, we incorporated fonts that evoke handwritten recipes but also pass for readability.
