Inspiration
We wanted to try out developing for VR, and we had a Leap Motion handy, so a VR version of Pong seemed like a good fit.
What it does
Using a Leap Motion and phones or multiple Google Cardboard headsets, users control the paddles in two dimensions, scoring points by bouncing the cube off of their paddles as many times as they can.
How we built it
We used the A-Frame WebVR framework to create the VR scene, and standard JavaScript for the game logic. We also used Firebase to sync data between clients.
Challenges we ran into
As it turns out, multiplayer games are hard. Figuring out how to balance performance and stability with usability was an interesting problem to solve, but I think we did a fairly decent job at it.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We made a video game for VR, and that's frickin' awesome.
What we learned
How to design games in three dimensions, and how to use challenges and technical limitations to our advantage.
