Inspiration

In my eyes, fashion is one of the most personal forms of self-expression that can say so much about a person, who they are, and their story. Yet, it is not often depicted that way in name-brand websites. It usually feels transactional, and there isn't much room for creativity beyond what goes on in your head. I wanted to build a platform that felt like a multi-use creative tool, a place where you can browse through inventory but also curate and compose a style that is personal to you—something you would want yourself to be remembered by. The name Forget-Me-Not reflects that your identity is not forgettable, and you should never dismiss an opportunity to display it. I also wanted to create a platform that supports small businesses, as it can be very difficult to gain traction alone.

Description Of The Platform + Key Features

Forget-me-not is a fashion-based app built around the idea of developing and building a style, and encouraging creativity while shopping to be intentional with purchases. Forget-me-not allows users to browse and interact with a broad range of inventory, including everything from shirts to accessories. It allows you to browse through such inventory in various ways to make it more fun and catered to you. You can view inventory sorted by aesthetic, weather, what's trending, what's recommended for you, etc. In the studio, you can interact with saved inventory and create looks and ideas for yourself to refer back to and actually shop for. When saved, you can see a card including the creation as well as what it is, where it comes from, and the cost. It will then be saved to a personal lookbook.

How I built it

Designed entirely on Canva, as a UI/UX mockup with a focus on visual storytelling, intuitive navigation, and cohesive branding all throughout. Also, including a couple of interactive features for an enhanced experience for the demo.

Challenges I ran into

It was truly difficult to balance my personal aesthetic and vision with the various necessary features. It was also just difficult to create a website that actually looked like a professional website; it seems much easier looking at already-made websites than building your own. Overall, I didn't struggle too much technically but was able to gain a lot of knowledge of features and animation on the platform, which I didn't know before. The biggest challenges were essentially just inexperience and the intimidating nature of building something from scratch

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I'm very proud of the logo. I love how it came out and how well it pairs with the brand. I also really love the name I came up with. The layout and cohesion in the website were difficult to create, but I did my best, and I feel I did great for my first time!

Future Iterations

I think the website is great, but I still feel that it misses the mark on looking like a professional website. In ways, I enjoy that, as it is a creative platform that is meant to stand out from plain websites. I do feel like things could be improved and formatted in a way that would make the website seem less basic. However, I do partially feel that the issue is more with the way Canva formatted the website. So I would like to recreate this website on Figma to improve on such factors. I would also like to add a social component, allowing people to share finds and looks they've created, etc. I think it would make the platform much more lively and inspire users even further. It would also allow them to view things they hadn't viewed before, or gain appreciation for certain unfamiliar styles.

What I learned

I think I definitely learnt how to think from the perspective of a user, what is appealing, and how to make things as effective but simple for users as possible. Everything from coming up with a creative idea for the platform to the logo, to the features had to be very thought out and intentional.
