Inspiration

Millions struggle with managing medication and health, especially those with Alzheimer's. This inspired us to create Forget Me Not, an all-in-one solution for safety and well-being.

What it does

Forget Me Not is an all-in-one health assistant that provides certainty for patients and simplifies monitoring for caregivers. The system ensures timely medication delivery, fall detection, and tracks health metrics like blood oxygen and heart rate—all in real-time. All data is visualized and accessible through a user-friendly website dashboard for easy monitoring and management.

How we built it

Forget Me Not was built with reliability and the needs of everyone in mind. We integrated RFID technology, sensors, servo motors, 3D design, and both visual and auditory signals. Each component is powered by an ESP32 microcontroller and constructed using 3D-printed materials that we designed with CAD software. The system was programmed with Arduino and React JS.

Challenges we ran into

We encountered several challenges during development, including poor 3D-printing quality which resulted in unfinished parts that compromised functionality. Technical issues with the servo motors and internal malfunctions affected the system's actuation. Structural adhesion problems led to instability in components, and complications in power distribution caused electrical fluctuations. These challenges were addressed through collaborative and proactive problem-solving, leading to improved reliability and functionality.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of finishing ahead of schedule and successfully integrating hardware and software systems to work together seamlessly. Designing a fully functional, servo motor-powered medication box was a major accomplishment, especially since it was a new challenge for us. Most importantly, we overcame several obstacles, leading to a stronger and more dependable solution.

What we learned

In developing Forget Me Not, we learned the importance of collaboration and persistence in problem-solving. We gained valuable insights into integrating hardware and software, as well as the challenges of creating a reliable and user-friendly product. We also learned to adapt to unforeseen difficulties, like technical setbacks and design flaws, and use them as opportunities for growth.

What's next for Forget Me Not

Next for Forget Me Not is a more compact design with unexposed circuitry for a cleaner, safer build. We plan to improve the consistency of connections with the web server for smoother data transmission. Additionally, we aim to add a feature for caregivers to track multiple users through the integration of a database and advanced UI.
