Inspiration
I wanted to seamlessly integrate weather updates into Jira to help teams plan better around climate-sensitive tasks or events.
What it does
It displays the current weather and a 5-day forecast inside a Jira dashboard using a Forge custom UI app.
How we built it
We used Atlassian Forge, integrated a weather API (like OpenWeatherMap), and built a dashboard gadget using React and Forge's custom UI.
Challenges we ran into
Configuring the API calls inside Forge's restricted backend was tricky. We also had issues with app deployment and dashboard rendering.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Successfully embedded a live weather forecast into Jira and learned to use Forge’s deployment tools, custom UI, and tunneling.
What we learned
How Forge architecture works, handling async API calls in Forge, and deploying functional gadgets in a production-like Jira setup.
What's next for Forge Kanika – weather app
Add location settings, support for multiple cities, temperature units toggle, weather alerts, and make it Runs on Atlassian eligible.
