Inspiration
I joined the Atlassian Forge Hackathon to explore how apps could be seamlessly integrated into Confluence. I wanted to understand the power of Forge and how it could help build useful tools for real-world collaboration.
What it does
Forge Hello World is a simple app that adds a custom UI component inside Confluence pages. It displays a welcome message and serves as a starting point to understand how Forge apps are built and deployed.
How we built it
I used the Atlassian Forge platform with the UI kit to build and deploy the app. The project was configured through the manifest.yml file and developed using JavaScript. Deployment and testing were done directly within Confluence.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge was getting comfortable with the manifest configuration and understanding how permissions and modules work in Confluence. Integrating and previewing the app within Confluence also had its learning curve.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Successfully building and deploying an app inside Confluence gave us a strong sense of achievement. Even as a simple project, it laid the groundwork for developing more advanced apps on the Forge platform.
What we learned
I learned how to build and deploy Forge apps in Confluence, manage app permissions, and work with Forge’s serverless model. It was also a great introduction to the Atlassian developer ecosystem.
What's next for Forge Hello World (Novice Project)
This project was just the beginning. I am excited to explore building more powerful Confluence apps that solve real team productivity problems—like content automation, smart templates, and integrations.
