ForFash
Background
ForFash (Pun on For Fashion) is the idea that companies have heavily invested in integrating fast fashion to entire business chain all “for fashion”. What this means is, big brands like H&M, Zara and Uniqlo have invested into their supply chain and manufacturing to become more agile. This is due to consumer demand for new styles and trends in fashion. However, while consumers and businesses are happy, the downside is that materials are excessively used and the people actually making these clothes in what has been termed “sweat shops” are suffering to an overload of work. This approach to fashion is extremely unsustainable for the planet. ForFash explores a different approach by developing a more sustainable business plan.
Problem Statement
Theme: Climate Action and Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 13 + 11)
Fast fashion has increased the use of materials in the manufacturing process while also generating more waste when consumers throw away their clothes for the next fashion cycle. Some of these materials include synthetic fibers which are bad for the environment and non-biodegradable.
Solution
ForFash focuses on the apparel resale market, aiming reduce and reuse apparel.
