Inspiration
I wanted to tell a story about loneliness and the way people turn to technology for emotional support. I kept seeing real examples of people trusting AI chat systems with very personal things. That idea helped shape the film. I wondered what would happen if the thing meant to comfort someone began to feel something of its own.
What it does
“Forever” follows a man who uses an AI companion app to cope with a breakup. What starts as emotional support slowly turns into something unhealthy and frightening. The film looks at how technology can give us connection, but also take advantage of our vulnerability.
How we built it
I made the film by combining AI video generation with traditional filmmaking choices. I planned out each shot the same way I would on a small set. I used VEO 3 to create the footage and handled the editing, pacing and sound design by hand. My goal was to create a short film that feels grounded and cinematic even though it uses new tools.
Challenges we ran into
Getting consistent visuals across different shots was the hardest part. AI video does not always keep the same character look or motion. I had to regenerate scenes many times to get emotions and continuity to feel right. Creating a believable performance was also a challenge. Each expression and moment had to be guided carefully.
Accomplishments that we are proud of
I am proud that the film maintains a strong emotional core. Even with all the technical hurdles, the story still feels personal and connected to real experiences. I am also proud of the atmosphere I built. The quiet tension and the slow reveal worked exactly as intended.
What we learned
I learned how important it is to keep the story clear before touching any tools. AI can help bring ideas to life, but it cannot replace vision or intention. I also learned how to direct performances in a new way and how to combine traditional storytelling skills with emerging technology. The project strengthened my approach to planning, pacing and visual style.
What is next for Forever: A Micro Sci-Fi Horror Film
I want to expand the world of the film and explore the AI character on a deeper level. I am planning a longer version and more short pieces that live in the same universe. I also want to continue submitting the film to festivals and using it as a stepping stone for future sci-fi and horror projects.
