Inspiration
To my friends and I, the SITE building (the UOttawa engineering building) is like a second home. We spend all our time between classes hanging out and studying there. However, sometime's it's hard to figure out if anyone else in our friend group is currently at SITE. We could shoot out the old "Anyone at site?" on instagram, but there's no guarantee of a response. Sometimes, two different groups will be in site at the same time and only run into one another two hours later on their way to class. Basically, I wanted a solid way to figure out who is in site and when.
What it does
The website will consist of an interactive map of site (very barebones, just a few sections of the building). Users can create accounts and friend groups, and add one another to friend groups, then, whenever they're in site, they can click the section of the interactive map at which they're located, and now, all your friends know you're at site and available to hang out. We would also like to add specific room numbers, or even specific tables, but that's for later.
How I built it
We're using django for the web and database stuff, HTML and CSS (of course) for the foundation of the site, and Javascript for the interactive map.
Challenges I ran into
I barely knew Django going into this, and my teammates barely knew CSS, HTML and Javascript (we are all first years.)
