Inspiration

When I was buying my laptop, I found it difficult to figure out whether I was paying the right price. There were so many options and different prices that comparing them wasn't easy. After buying it, I felt that I might have overpaid for it. That experience made me think about how many other people face the same problem, especially when buying used products.

Most people compare a few listings and make a decision based on whatever information they can find. But how do you actually know if a price is fair? I wanted to build something that could help people answer that question using real market data instead of guesswork. That's how FORESEEN started.

What is FORESEEN?

FORESEEN stands for the idea of seeing beyond the price. It is a tool that helps people make better decisions when buying used products by analyzing available market listings and comparing their prices.

The project uses SerpApi to fetch Google Shopping results for a product. It then matches relevant product specifications, analyzes the available prices, calculates market statistics, and displays confidence indicators based on the evidence it finds. It also has an Availability Lens that helps users explore available listings and understand how prices can vary between the first page and broader search results.

The main idea is not just to show users a number, but to help them understand the market behind that number.

How I Built It

I built FORESEEN using Python and Flask for the backend, along with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for the frontend. I used SerpApi to retrieve shopping results and worked on processing those results to make product comparisons more meaningful.

One thing I wanted to focus on was making the results useful and transparent. Product prices can vary for many reasons, so simply calculating an average isn't always enough. FORESEEN aims to provide context through price ranges, market variation, specification matching, and confidence indicators.

Challenges I Faced

Getting everything to work together was one of the biggest challenges. I had to deal with API integration, inconsistent search results, backend errors, and deployment issues. There were times when fixing one problem led to another, especially while trying to get the application deployed.

Working through these issues taught me how important debugging and testing are when building a complete application. Getting the project running locally was only one part of the process; making it accessible through a live deployment was another challenge.

What I Learned

While building FORESEEN, I gained practical experience with Flask, external API integration, data processing, product matching, and deployment. I also learned to think more carefully about the quality of the data behind an application's output.

This project started with a problem I personally experienced, and building it helped me turn that experience into something that could be useful to other people.

What's Next?

I would like to improve FORESEEN's product matching, expand its coverage across more categories, and make its price analysis even more reliable.

My goal is to help buyers make more informed decisions by showing them not just what a product costs, but how that price compares with the available market evidence.

FORESEEN — See beyond the price.
