Inspiration

We live in the era of "subscription creep." Between streaming platforms, software tools, cloud storage, gym memberships, utility bills, domain renewals, and insurance policies, recurring expenses silently chip away at our bank accounts. Most people only realize they are still paying for a forgotten service after the auto-renewal charge hits their statement.

Existing solutions usually fall into two frustrating extremes:

Invasive finance apps that demand your online banking credentials, storing your private financial history on cloud servers and monetizing your spending habits with targeted ads.
Passive spreadsheets that require tedious manual entry and do nothing to help you decide whether a subscription is still worth its price tag.

We created ForeDue with a clear mission: to build a private, local-first commitment tracker and renewal advisor. ForeDue doesn't just track dates—it acts as an active financial guardian. By prompting structured, mindful reflection reviews before renewal deadlines pass, ForeDue ensures you make intentional spending decisions while keeping your personal financial data 100% private and securely on your own device.

ForeDue keeps currencies distinct and authentic—never averaging them into misleading combined estimates.
Proactive Renewal Reviews & Local Advisor: Before renewal dates arrive, ForeDue initiates a brief, thoughtful reflection questionnaire. It helps you assess utility, price increases, and satisfaction. The Pro Advisor suggests potential plan downgrades and smart service alternatives based on a built-in offline service catalog.
Clear Cash Flow Timeline: A chronological projection feed that clearly separates confirmed past payments from upcoming scheduled charges, with intuitive filters for categories, status, and currency.
Private On-Device Receipt Scanning: Snap a photo of a receipt or invoice; ForeDue extracts vendor names, amounts, and due dates directly on your phone without ever uploading your documents to the cloud.
Timely Smart Alerts: Customizable multi-day reminders (such as 7, 3, or 1 day ahead) delivered reliably in the morning, giving you plenty of time to cancel, downgrade, or keep a service.
Global by Design (8 Languages): Fully localized in English, Indonesian, Korean, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, German, Russian, and Spanish, complete with automatic regional currency and language setup.

Best of all, when you start the Pro trial, ForeDue automatically logs its own subscription into your tracker. How we built it

We designed ForeDue from the ground up to combine native mobile speed with uncompromising privacy:

100% Offline-First Data Architecture: Powered by a high-performance local database on the user's device. Your financial information never touches third-party tracking servers.
Transparent Commerce with RevenueCat: Integrated RevenueCat to manage our Pro subscriptions and free trials effortlessly. RevenueCat ensures instant entitlement delivery, seamless plan management, and a transparent one-tap purchase restoration flow.
Privacy-Conscious Cloud Sessions: Incorporated seamless Google Sign-In and secure account sessions that protect cloud backups without ever linking personal identity to local subscription amounts.
Thoughtful Human-Centered UI/UX: Crafted across 30 dedicated screen designs focused on one-handed thumb reachability, clear typography, dynamic edge-to-edge system navigation, and an encouraging mascot companion that celebrates your mindful money milestones.
Exhaustive Automated Reliability: Validated with comprehensive automated test suites to guarantee calendar precision across leap years, exact currency math, and tamper-proof backup recovery.

Challenges we ran into

Balancing Complete Privacy with Cloud Convenience: Designing an app where users can enjoy seamless cloud backups and subscription perks without violating our core promise that personal spending data never leaves the phone required strict architectural boundaries.
Real-World Calendar Quirks: Billing cycles are notoriously tricky. Subscriptions that renew on the 31st of a month or on February 29th can drift over time. We developed custom calendar anchor algorithms to guarantee that renewal dates remain completely accurate month after month, year after year.
Authentic Multi-Currency Handling: Many people travel or subscribe to international tools priced in different currencies. Instead of applying fluctuating, inaccurate conversion rates that distort real costs, we engineered ForeDue to respect each currency independently.
Designing for Encouragement Rather Than Anxiety: Personal finance apps can easily make users feel guilty or stressed about spending. We spent significant time refining our copy and design so our Advisor feels supportive, objective, and empowering.
