Inspiration
The functionality of this platform is inspired by the aesthetics and capabilities of social platforms such as Instagram, Reddit, and Pinterest. The 3D components of the platform were inspired by the appearance of Miiverse, a social platform for video game enjoyers available on Nintendo consoles.
What it does
"Forest of Whimsy" allows users to navigate through enchanted forests that are tailored to their special interest. Each forest presents a collection of posts from other Forest Members that share the same interest as the user.
In addition, users are able to customize their own woodland avatar, like others' posts, and friend other users.
How we built it
Blender was used to create the 3D assets. Superbase and PostGreSQL were used to construct the database. Figma was used to design a higher-fidelity mockup of our prototype, primarily focusing on the onboarding experience.
Challenges we ran into
- Understanding how to build the database
- Scoping down our project to meet the deadline
- Determining what the UI should look like in order to ensure an intuitive user experience

- Applying existing knowledge on databases to a real project
- Integrated Superbase authentication and MCP servers

- How to construct a working backend that allows users to log into a system
- How to create a 3D model that responds to mouse scrolling input
- How to host a web app on Azure
What's next for Forest of Whimsy
- If we were given more time, we would implement more features such as profile pages, a commenting system. We would also refine the UI and 3D models of the platform.
