Inspiration

We were inspired to create this app after noticing a major gap in resources for learning sign language. While there are many tools/resources for spoken languages, ASL apps are offten outdated, non-interactive and hard to follow. Therefore, we wanted to create something more engaging and accessible. We were also fascinated and wanted to explore how humans can communicate deeply without words.

What it does

An educational app that aims to teach students, as well as adults of any ages, ASL.

How we built it

We used programmes such as Figma to create demos and design mockups that helped visualise how the app would look and function. These examples allowed us to bring our concept to life and demonstrate the user experience, layout and learning flow of the app.

Challenges we ran into

Time constraints, it was hard to turn our idea into a reality. We had to use Figma for the first time, so with no prior experience, it took us longer than expected, it was difficult at first to understand how it worked and how to design different parts of the app in this way.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We successfully completed this project within the given time and we learnt new skills by practicing and making our own designs in Figma as well as improving editing skills the video used to show our product. We're proud of how it's turned out and how it was exactly what we envisioned to be a user-friendly app.

What we learned

We learnt and improved our problem-solving skills because we had to keep making changes to our design, making sure it looked good as well as ensuring it functioned properly. We also learned how difficult it was to make everything interactive and how important it was to make it easy to access and use as a normal user.

What's next for ForAll

We would like to expand and keep growing our lessons, adding more advanced phrases and possibly also add more fun interactive gamemodes to keep this app engaging for users and ensure they want to keep learning using this app. Another aim we had in mind is that we would like to include a way that users can submit their sign through a camera and maybe even interact with others online and socialise and communicate in this way so that people can actually have a chance to practice it in a real situation.
