Inspiration
We were inspired by top-down games, games such as Hades for its gameplay loop and pokemon for the art style.
What it does
Essentially, you survive for a certain amount of time and fight against the incoming enemies; the harder the difficulty, the longer the time and the greater the amount of enemies.
How we built it
We built it using a combination of GitHub, Godot, and Aseprite. Leo worked on the sprites, and Ben and Nathan worked on the Godot scripting/UI building.
Challenges we ran into
Honestly, everything seemed to be smooth sailing ; the real challenge was really just getting GitHub to work properly. This was for sure the biggest issue with us.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The animation and sprites look really good to us, and the attack system is really cool too, so I think those are the things we are most proud of. We also managed to make an actual playable game in a very short amount of time.
What we learned
We learned how to implement sprites and build a room with tiles, and we also learned how to have enemies pathfind to the player. We learned how to build a basic UI and work together as a team.
What's next for For The King!
Current nice-to-haves: More levels, more enemies, more decoration sprites, custom music, better looking UI.
