Inspiration

I realized that most articles about environmental concerns have a lot of academic terminology and jargon, which deters people from furthering their knowledge on the topic. I wanted to make something informational but also simple so readers aren't overwhelmed.

What it does

There are 3 main pages and 1 contact page to ask me questions. I have a page to summarize current concerns, a page that gives current updates such as the live Twitter feed of Environment Journal, and also a get involved page, which provides the reader with charities they can support and also DIY projects they can do at home. I registered the domain forthefuture.tech with Domain.ca

How I built it

I began with using Bootstrap, but eventually moved over to VScode and coded it myself using HTML and CSS.

Challenges I ran into

This was my first time using HTML, CSS, and also Bootstrap, so everything was pretty new for me. I had a lot of trouble with bootstrap, especially with customizing the CSS components and adding tabs, which caused me to move over to VScode. I didn't get to host the website on my domain, so I'm disappointed with that.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

  • Using HTML CSS and Bootstrap for the first time
  • Learnt a lot of features of Bootstrap which I'll be using in the future.
  • Submitting a hackathon project for the first time
  • Making a website for the first time

What I learned

  • I learned that Bootstrap can't be used for everything and a lot needs to be coded yourself
  • Linking a Twitter feed isn't as hard as I thought
  • Strengthened my HTML and CSS skills

What's next for 'for the future. Archive'

I want to host the website on my domain and continue updating it whenever I have some free time. I'm hoping it can be used in an academic setting for elementary schools and overall just an accessible resource for anyone.
