Inspiration

We did this as we feel like there is a genuine problem in the world when 10 percent of the world lives in extreme poverty. We have born in a fortunate situation whilst many of our fellow human beings haven’t. Many of these individuals aren’t as blessed as us and have just as many talents. We feel the moral need to help these poor souls against the unfortunate circumstances that they have faced. We believe that even this small change will help humanity take a step In the right direction.

What it does

Our Web Application "for the better" has thought of a solution to minimize poverty worldwide; this solution obtains trifling, small amounts of Money (0.99 > X) not exceeding a Dollar $. For Example, a customer purchases something online for $29.28; using our Web Application it rounds this number to the next highest whole number, In this case, $30. Using our calculations code we receive the remaining change ($30 - $29.28 = $0.72). This money is then transferred to our team that distributes the money collected to malnourish several parts of the world that suffer from poverty. To ensure that your money has been transferred for this purpose, we will ensure that all expenditures are shown to our users visually.

The For the Better Foundation’ idea is named Every Dollar Counts. Consisting of rounding up every order made by online ordering up to the closest dollar (or equivalent value in the native currency) and giving that money to the UN. All transactions will be monitored by experts to make sure no money laundering attempts will happen and detailed reports of how the money is collected and how it is spent will be available to the public. The money will be invested into small local businesses as well as teaching people the skills needed to run it and work in it. The choosing of companies will be done by the local UN workers as they will be knowledgeable of the area.

How we built it

Created the website using HTML in visual studio code and then edited the video using premiere pro.

Challenges we ran into

Not knowing how to program in HTML . Took a long time to come up with a plan. Struggled to submit our final file due to the file being .rar instead of .zip

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We managed to create a functioning website and a good idea within our limited time range. This could have only been done by possessing good teamwork skills, a skill we acquired along the way as we discovered the struggles and benefits of working together. )

What we learned

We learnt the importance of coding and time efficiency. Additionally, we learnt how to use HTML and Visual studio and premier pro. We also learnt how to work in a team and the importance of using our time beneficially to make creative ideas. Finally, we learnt not to delay submitting our work and be as fast as possible.

What's next for For the Better

We plan on using our newly acquired skills in video editing, teamwork and coding to create a campaign using a variety of methods like videos, websites and presentations to promote our idea and show how little it affects the people paying and how it tremendously helps the impoverished people
