We saw the challenge JP Morgan posted about helping people with special needs, and given that one of our team members has experience with this subject, we decided to pursue this option. We created the app/website called ForJared, in the name of Tyler's brother, Jared. Jared has Childhood disintegrative disorder, or CDD. Jared has a difficult time socializing with his peers, but has really good with motor skills, which is one of the traits of CDD. Tyler wanted to make this app to help parents better understand the conditions their son or daughter may have.
What it does
This app is the parents rating their child on sociability, intelligence, activity, interests, and personality. After the rating is given, then it outputs what type of autism they most likely are, and outputs treatment options and suggestions to help better understand the conditions. Keep in mind that this is not certified nor peer reviewed by any psychiatrist, so this app does not a diagnosis, but more of a suggestion.
How we built it
We built it on Android studio, with the help of also making a website to display both the information available to the user.
Challenges we ran into
One of the team members didn't know java, and all of us do not have any sort of medical history, so researching about these conditions is just from pulling sources from reputable doctors online. I.E. WebMD
Accomplishments that we're proud of
What we learned
We learned more about the different types of autism and how to better help people with those conditions. We also learned from the JP Morgan workshop to simplify our project and to think about who is using our project.
What's next for For Jared
Test it with parents, see which parts they liked and which parts to improve and to keep expanding on the project for future iterations.
