Inspiration
We are passionate about environment and climate change. We realized that there existed a discovery problem for people who wanted to find and volunteer at such projects. The solutions that did exist were quite rudimentary. So, we attempted to build this project to solve this problem.
What it does
This web app allows users to discover fulfilling environmental volunteer projects in their locations. These projects are organized by accredited non-profits. The non-profits get to easily recruit volunteers using the platform.
How we built it
We designed the front-end using HTML/CSS and Bootstrap. The backend was built using Flask with an instance of MongoDB Atlas hosted on Google Cloud.
Challenges we ran into
We faced many issues in getting the MongoDB authentication working. Ultimately, we were able to hack our way through it.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Learning how to make a backend REST API for CRUD and learning Bootstrap for front-end.
What we learned
We learned MongoDB, Bootstrap and how to make REST APIs.
What's next for For a cause
We plan to build this out further and finish the platform.
