Inspiration
- We wanted to create a centralized platform that makes environmental information easier to access and understand, from climate change and weather conditions to environmental risks and news.
What it does
- FootSteps centralizes environmental data, risk information, weather conditions, and news in one web application.
- It uses AI automation to gather and update relevant environmental information every 24 hours.
- The platform applies SEO, AEO, and GEO practices to improve content discoverability, search visibility, and accessibility across traditional and AI-powered search platforms.
How we built it
- Built with Next.js for the web application and Spring Boot with Java and Maven for the backend.
- Used Firebase/Firestore for data storage and n8n for automated data ingestion and processing.
- Integrated AI-powered features to process and organize environmental information.
Challenges we ran into
- Gathering and combining environmental information from different sources.
- Automating data collection while ensuring reliable 24-hour updates.
- Integrating the frontend, backend, database, automation workflows, and AI features into one system.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Built a centralized environmental intelligence platform combining multiple environmental data sources.
- Successfully implemented automated data gathering and scheduled updates.
- Created a responsive and accessible interface for viewing environmental information and risks.
What we learned
- We learned how to integrate AI automation with full-stack web development.
- We gained experience with APIs, automated data pipelines, cloud databases, and backend services.
- We also learned how to transform complex environmental data into understandable information.
What's next for FootSteps
- Expand environmental data sources and coverage.
- Improve AI-powered environmental analysis and risk insights.
- Add more real-time monitoring, alerts, and predictive features.
