About the Project

Our project was born out of a simple but urgent question: “If everyone knew the impact of their habits on the world, would they still continue them?” As a team, we realized that most people want to be environmentally conscious but lack guidance. Information about carbon footprints is often abstract, overwhelming, or difficult to calculate.

We wanted to clear up this confusion and empower individuals with data that truly matters. This vision inspired us to build a website that can easily detect, analyze, and reduce personal carbon footprints online.

Those Who Inspire Us

Climate change is no longer a problem that is far away. We see its effects around us — for example, extreme weather conditions, pollution, and environmental degradation. However, many people still don’t know how their daily habits contribute to this issue. We wanted to fill this gap.

The idea emerged when we realized something important: People don’t change until they understand their impact, and they don’t understand unless someone explains that impact to them in a simple and friendly way and measures it.

This project became our way of turning environmental awareness into actionable steps.

How We Built It

We started by designing a carbon footprint survey to measure daily activities such as transportation, energy use, diet, waste, and habits. Then we decided to build a website.

The website follows a clear structure:

  1. Collects the data entered by the user through the survey

  2. Processes and analyzes the collected data

  3. Calculates the user's estimated carbon footprint

  4. Generates personalized recommendations

These recommendations are small but effective actions that users can take to reduce their footprint. We focused on making the interface clean, fast, and encouraging because we believe sustainability should feel achievable, not complicated. Throughout the development phase, we also researched scientific carbon footprint standards to ensure our calculations were meaningful and realistic.

What We Learned

This project taught us much more than just working and designing. We learned:

  • how much space our habits occupy in our carbon footprint

  • how to turn scientific data into tools that people can truly understand

  • how small decisions can make a big difference in user behavior

  • how technology can be a powerful motivating resource for change

We also learned how to work as a team — how to brainstorm, divide tasks fairly, solve problems, and recognize individual strengths to achieve a more efficient outcome.

Challenges We Faced

Building a project that is both scientifically accurate and easy to use was, at first glance, the biggest challenge for us. Initially, we struggled to find reliable factors to measure the carbon footprint in everyday habits.

Balancing simplicity and accuracy was difficult because if it was too simple, it would be misleading, and if it was too complex, it would be overwhelming. While conducting the survey, we encountered difficulties deciding which questions to ask to achieve accurate results.

Ensuring that the recommendations matched each user's footprint required more than one recommendation idea, which led us to research and creativity. And of course, debugging — we debugged a lot of errors.

However, every challenge we encountered motivated us to think more deeply, collaborate more closely, and improve the quality of the project.

Why It Matters

Our website does much more than just measure an approximate carbon footprint. It raises awareness about nature and guides user behavior accordingly. It encourages more environmentally responsible choices because users learn how much their carbon footprint affects the environment.

You may develop just one habit at a time, but with commitment, the number of habits can grow significantly. We believe that meaningful and permanent change begins with understanding why acquiring that habit is necessary.

If our project helps even a single person reduce their carbon footprint, that means we have already made a difference.

In Conclusion

This project was not just about creating a website. It was also about using technology correctly and effectively, helping people become more conscious about the environment, raising awareness, and protecting the future.

We set out to help people understand the impact of their carbon footprints on nature. What we did not expect was how much we would grow throughout the process, how much we would learn together, and how much more conscious we would become.

And above all, that is what made this project meaningful.
