Inspiration

The project began with the question of the permanence of memory and life after loss for human beings. We were inspired by the idea of a being that exists solely on the warmth of memories, even after everything they loved has vanished. Specifically, we found the identity of a steadfast guardian in the image of a pet waiting for its owner.

What it does

This story highlights the importance of preserving memories and the thread of hope. The protagonist, 'Nabi,' physically guards the place (the neighborhood) that holds the happy moments shared with the departed. It delivers an emotionally resonant message to the audience or readers about love and hope that remain, even amidst the pain of loss.

How we built it

(This section is written with a hypothetical project in mind) The narrative was structured around Nabi's perspective, contrasting the vibrant scenes of the past with the solitary reality of the present. The setting description maximizes the feeling of loneliness by utilizing sound (silence) and light (vanished warmth), expressing Nabi's lonely struggle to preserve memories through her actions (staying, watching).

Challenges we ran into

It was challenging to visually or narratively express the abstract concept of the 'warmth' of memory in a compelling way. Additionally, we had to work to balance the emotional tone so that the protagonist, Nabi, was perceived not just as a sorrowful figure but as a symbol of hope.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We successfully established Nabi's role as the 'Guardian of Memories,' providing a deep emotional resonance for the readers. We are most proud of being able to convey a message of hope awaiting the warmth that will someday return, preventing the story about loss from becoming purely tragic.

What we learned

We learned that the most powerful stories often arise from a simple concept and deep emotional connection. We realized that the solitary endurance of a being that chooses to stay behind can convey a more intense message than grand events or complex world-building.

What's next for Footprints

The next step is to develop a sequel where new visitors are drawn to the neighborhood by the warmth of the memories Nabi is guarding. We will explore how these new characters interact with Nabi and what physical changes the 'Footprints' Nabi has preserved will undergo.
