Inspiration
The clothing around us and how sustainability in clothing is especially overlooked to college students. Wanting to make a site that explores more about the ethics of trending pieces seen all over UMD.
What it does
A website that addresses the issue of fast fashion and focuses on specific trending clothing seen all over UMD. Identifies the materials used and its environmental impacts. Also offers alternatives to clothing that is well loved.
How we built it
Built it first with HTML, added CSS later on. Started with a doc that identified the problem and we split the tasks into research, design, and coding.
Challenges we ran into
Working with CSS and HTML—we were all not largely familiar with these languages so it was difficult to have us implement certain design features that we wanted (making things fade in, image sizing, etc.)
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of the content that is on our site, the scroll feature on the home page, and the overall design of the website, which was made to mirror a shopping site.
What we learned
Website development, ideas about fashion sustainability, working together as a team/assigning roles to maximize productivity.
What's next for Footprints at College Park—Fashion Sustainability at UMD
Being able to regularly update the website to feature apparel that is constantly trending, perhaps through AI to source the materials info and find material impacts about them.
