Inspiration
We took inspiration from the current climate catastrophe faced by our planet as a result of poor and unsustainable practices. As students from developing countries, directly impacted by climate change, we know first hand, the need for action in reducing carbon emissions.
What it does
The app allows users to track their daily, monthly and yearly totals of carbon emission.
How we built it
We built it using Java and Android Studio.
Challenges we ran into
One of the main challenges we encountered was tabulating the accuracy of the values to each individual person as we cant account for the subtle differences and outlying conditions that would differentiate between various people.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Building a viable prototype for an application that can track carbon footprints, granting users climate impact awareness.
What we learned
We learned more about carbon emissions, and the impact of these emissions in relation to climate change. We learned that climate change's has not only damaging effects on the environment, but the livelihoods of populations, thereby making the issue a social one, even more so than environmental.
What's next for Footprint
If given the resources to build the application we hope to create viable applications for both Android and iOS users and incentivize users to take further steps in reducing their carbon footprint via a potential reward system.
