Inspiration
In a world increasingly focused on health and wellness, we wanted to create an app that motivates people to stay active while also allowing them to express their creativity. FootFolio was inspired by the idea that every step we take tells a story, and we wanted to turn those journeys into beautiful, unique digital artworks. By combining fitness tracking with NFT art creation, we aim to encourage users to walk more and engage with their surroundings in a new way.
What it does
FootFolio is a mobile application that tracks users' walking routes using GPS and transforms them into stunning visual representations. Each path is converted into a unique piece of digital art that users can mint as an NFT on the Electroneum blockchain. With each walk, users have the opportunity to create and collect art that reflects their personal journeys and achievements.
How we built it
We built FootFolio using React Native for cross-platform mobile compatibility, allowing us to reach a broader audience. The application utilizes Google Maps API for GPS tracking and path visualization. For art generation, we leveraged SVG techniques to convert walking paths into visually appealing designs. Smart contracts for NFT minting were developed using Solidity, ensuring seamless integration with the Electroneum blockchain. We also incorporated MetaMask for easy wallet connectivity.
Challenges we ran into
One of the main challenges was converting complex paths into art while maintaining visual appeal required extensive experimentation with different styles and algorithms. Integrating smart contracts and ensuring compliance with Electroneum's standards also posed some technical hurdles.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We successfully created a fully functional prototype that allows users to track their walks, generate art, and mint their creations as NFTs. We are particularly proud of the app's user interface, which makes it easy for users to understand and engage with the features. The initial feedback from our testing group has been overwhelmingly positive, highlighting the app's potential to motivate users to walk more while having fun with their fitness.
What we learned
Throughout the development process, we learned valuable lessons about cross-platform app development and the intricacies of working with blockchain technology. We gained insights into user experience design, especially in balancing functionality with aesthetic appeal.
What's next for FootFolio
Looking ahead, we plan to enhance FootFolio by adding social features that allow users to share their artworks and compete in community challenges. We also aim to implement a marketplace where users can buy, sell, and trade their NFTs. Additionally, we want to explore partnerships with fitness organizations to promote the app and encourage healthier lifestyles. Our ultimate goal is to create a thriving community of walking artists who celebrate their journeys through creativity.
