Inspiration
Foot is a chrome extension that empowers shoppers to make more environmentally friendly and responsible purchases when shopping online and locally. Inspiration: The consequences of climate change are starting to slowly crawl up on our community. Whether you believe in climate change or not, air and water quality are going down in Pittsburgh and around the world due to our overconsumption. According to Forbes, 77% of shoppers want to shop sustainably, but there is a lack of knowing how. Foot wants to bridge the gap between consumers and companies to combat climate change through the power of business. To keep people engaged we will tell our users their savings in carbon, water usage, and even energy, depending on the product.
What we learned: As a team, we at first did not know each other, but we quickly realized that our diversity in backgrounds was our biggest strength. People tend to team up with people with similar personality types, but we experience the value in diversity when it comes to innovation. Through a variety of perspectives with both environmental science and computer science majors, we were able to collaborate our differing ideas and backgrounds.
How you built: Through manifesting a chrome extension file and coding through HTML/CSS. As for our digital design, our team developers created our logo and art from scratch. When our code appears the icon will forever stay next to your tabs making it easily accessible to search through products instead of going to a website or mobile app. **We used outside template from a company called Unapp.
Challenges: In the beginning, none of us have the experience and some of us did not know what a chrome extension was. Learning how to code a new entity in a day was challenging but, we wanted to take the challenge to learn more coding and it excited us! We also had no backend developer.
