Inspiration
We have always wanted to go to the gym and become fit, but we realized a crucial aspect of this was planning our day to day meals. However, we realized a majority of the apps on the market were to complicated to use, and it was a hassle to input meals on a daily. To help others get started as well as ourselves, we decided to take initiative and make our own app.
What it does
It recognizes a food when pointing the camera through it. Then, it finds out how many calories are in it and tracks it.
How we built it
We used a Google API for the object recognition software. To find out how many calories are in it we used a USDA Api that has a massive source of information about foods and their calories. Also, we used React Native, java script, and python for the back-end stuff.
Challenges we ran into
Making the app in iOS was a big challenge because we are not extremely skilled with that.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of implementing google API to recognize food.
What we learned
We learned lots about iOS app development
What's next for Foogle
The app store.
