Inspiration

The inspiration came from me. As a first-generation student, I didn't know anything about the opportunities available to me. Foogle is here to give students access to the info that they otherwise couldn't get.

What it does

Foogle takes the grade of the students along with their career interests and provides them with activities they could do. Most first-generation students are unaware of all the opportunities that are out there.

How we built it

I built the prototype using Python. I don't have any coding experience so Python being the most friendly coding language was my go-ahead.

Challenges we ran into

I struggled with syntax and struggled with putting my ideas into code. I didn't know any Python before Saturday so I struggled with making the code understand my intentions I also had to research some opportunities for highschoolers in specific fields relating to business.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I am really proud of the way each answer the user puts has a different and intricate response. It feels more personal when each grade and career path has its own personalized answer.

I am also proud of the fact I was able to put the idea I had into code even if it is at a minimum level

What we learned

I learned that coding is truly amazing. It let me make this small idea into a material program that can help students. I also learned how to program in python becoming good enough to make a mini project

What's next for Foogle: A search engine for first-gen students

The next step for Foogle would be to make a website. The website will let students put their information in and give them super personalized information. By using a database of programs, events and other opportunities, Foogle can become a tool that significantly helps first-gen students.
