## Inspiration  
I volunteered at a local food bank and was struck by the sheer volume of perfectly good meals being discarded simply because there was no easy way to coordinate pickups. I wanted to create a bridge between donors, shelters, and volunteers that could be set up in minutes—using no-code tools and AI to make a tangible social impact.

## What it does  
**FoodWasteConnector** streamlines the entire surplus food donation process:  
- **Donate Surplus**: Donors fill out a simple form (name, food type, quantity, map‑pin location).  
- **Incoming Requests**: Shelters see live “pending” donations, accept with one tap, and trigger automated donor notifications.  
- **Volunteer Pickups**: Volunteers view accepted pickups and get turn‑by‑turn routing in the embedded map widget.  
- **AI Assist**: Automatically categorize free‑form food descriptions (Perishable, Non‑perishable, Cooked, Packaged) and generate personalized confirmation messages.

## How we built it  
- **Bolt.new**: Rapidly assembled UI screens (forms, lists, modals), integrated the map & routing widget, configured AI Text Actions for food classification and message generation.  
- **Supabase**: Handled email/password authentication and hosted the “donations” PostgreSQL table with real‑time updates.  
- **Netlify**: Deployed the app with one click for continuous hosting.  
- **Twilio**: Sent SMS notifications to donors when shelters accepted their donations.  
- **ElevenLabs** (optional): Provided voice reminders for pickup appointments.

## Challenges we ran into  
- **Dynamic Mapping**: Passing user‑picked geopoints into Bolt.new’s routing widget took several iterations to get the data binding correct.  
- **AI Prompt Tuning**: Iterating our “classify food” prompt to handle varied, real‑world food descriptions without misclassifications.  
- **Real‑Time Updates**: Balancing Supabase’s live queries to refresh “Incoming Requests” smoothly without performance lags.

## Accomplishments that we're proud of  
- Built a fully functional, multi‑role web app (donor, shelter, volunteer) in under five days using entirely no‑code tools.  
- Seamlessly integrated AI classification and personalized notifications to enhance clarity and trust.  
- Launched a polished demo with real‑time map routing and SMS alerts, showcasing social impact in action.

## What we learned  
- How to model complex user flows with a simple database schema (handling multiple roles and donation statuses).  
- Best practices for crafting concise AI prompts that reliably parse free‑form text into structured categories.  
- The power of no‑code platforms (Bolt.new + Supabase) to deliver production‑ready, socially impactful apps in record time.

- **Expand Partnerships**: Onboard more food banks, shelters, and volunteer networks across additional cities.  
- **Impact Dashboard**: Build analytics to track meals saved, active donors, shelter activity, and volunteer performance.  
- **Multilingual Support**: Use AI translation to let users interact in their preferred language.  
- **Automated Scheduling**: Enable volunteers to propose pickup windows and auto‑match availability.  
- **Native Mobile App**: Create iOS/Android versions with offline routing and push‑to‑talk voice prompts for enhanced accessibility.
