Inspiration

Aligned with the second goal of SDGs - zero hunger, our inspiration originates from the critical issue of food waste and the urgent necessity to enhance food accessibility and nutrition globally. Our goal was to create an innovative AI-driven solution to effectively tackle these challenges.

What it does

FoodWaste Companion is an AI-powered chatbot designed to:

1. Locate Nearby Local Markets: Help users find the closest markets for fresh produce.
2. Locate Nearby Food Banks: Direct users to nearby food banks where they can donate surplus food.
3. Create Personalized Recipes: Generate recipes based on locally abundant food items, predicted using FAO data, combined with another ingredient of choice. ## How we built it Using DialogFlow as a mainframe for building a chatbot and integrated it with external APIs (i.e. Google Maps APIs, Edamam Food APIs) ## Challenges we ran into
4. Finding the right dataset for building a predictive model for custom recipe.
5. Learning how to use Dialogflow for chatbot development and integrated with a web.
6. Connecting the chatbot to the backend services. ## Accomplishments that we're proud of
7. Prediction Model Integration: Constructed a model utilizing FAO datasets to forecast the predominant locally produced foods and integrated it into a chatbot
8. AI ChatBot Development: Engineered the chatbot leveraging Dialogflow and seamlessly integrated it with external APIs.
9. Effective Solution: Developed a functional tool empowering users to minimize food waste and enhance food accessibility within their communities.
