Inspiration
Sometimes we are not sure where to find love in Tinder so we ended up loving food instead
What it does
Basically works like Tinder but we changed it so that you can choose the 'food' you love instead of a person and then generate some meals based on the ingredients that you loved
How we built it
We built it with React and Vite, TailwindCss on the frontend, Express.js on the backend and also used the Gemini API SDK for generating the recommended meals
Challenges we ran into
At first, we wanted to use Supabase for backend but realised due to the limited time, we didn't have enough time to fully utilise it so we moved to using Express.js for more simplicity and easier integration with the Gemini API. We also run out of tokens which hindered our development and testing
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We managed to implement the system of Tinder food in around 6 hours and manage to learn how to integrate the Gemini API in our web app
What we learned
Focus on the basic stuff and start building around it was essential as it drive the project forwards and pushed our spirit to not give up.
What's next for FoodSwipe
We tried setting up authentication but realised we didn't have enough time for it so we would probably do that and also create a "fridge" page where we can add our ingredients that we have and generate meal based on that
