Inspiration
I was inspired by Fitch Cheney's Five Card Trick and the Art Gallery Problem -- how simple pigeonhole principle can lead to nontrivial results.
What it does
Based on a rough estimate, there are always fewer items on the menu at the GSU than there are number of orders placed at GSU during any meal period on the weekdays. This means that there must be at least two orders of the same menu item. With FoodShare, students can choose to split the food with their peers, reducing the likelihood of food being wasted.
How I built it
I used a MERN stack and ViteCSS library. I tested the web app via local host on my computer. Major thank you to Sunghyun Jun. I was heavily inspired by freeCodeCamp.org and used their MERN stack template as the basis of my web app.
Challenges I ran into
Time is definitely a challenge. If I could I would have spent more time on the design.
Accomplishments that I am proud of
debugging like crazy and finally making the back-end work
What I learned
How to use MongolDB and Vite with React
What's next for FoodShare
I hope to collaborate with GSU and plan on looking into the Grubhub API
