Inspiration
Food Inventory is a daily problem for many people. Keeping track of what is in your pantry or in your fridge is hard, and sometimes you might forget you had something and buy extra, looking at what you have in your fridge is now possible online.
What it does
FoodRadar tracks fridge inventory through the use of cameras inside the fridge and image food recognition. It also allows manual pantry or outside of fridge items to be manually input into the inventory.
How we built it
We built it using the MERN Stack (MongoDB, Express.js, React, Node.js) and the Google Cloud Vision API for food recognition through image.
Challenges we ran into
Implementing the API and backend was quite tiring since we are new to the MERN stack and the JavaScript language world as a whole.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
For first time MERN stack users, and mostly our first time hacking, we are proud of the webapp and the successful integration of backend/frontend and also a REST API.
What we learned
We learned how to work in front end, integrating across front and back, and also how to consider a complete coding project in a limited time frame.
What's next for FoodRadar
Better AI models for food recognition and more automation for both inside and outside of fridge inventory management.
