Inspiration

A fitness app that helps you do more with less.

As a high school student into fitness, I constantly track calories, budget my meals, and manage my workouts. I’ve tried many apps to help me do this, but most of them become too expensive — especially for a student. So I decided to build something for myself, and for others like me, who want to live healthy, sustainably, and affordably.

What It Does

Kalynx is your all-in-one sustainable fitness companion.
It helps you track your health, environmental impact, and budget — powered by AI.

Core Features

  • AI Fridge Scanner: Snap a photo of your ingredients, get budget-friendly & sustainable recipe ideas.
  • Fitness Goal Tracker: Track your workouts and calories burned.
  • Calorie & Protein Tracker: Log meals and monitor intake.
  • Carbon Footprint Tracker: Understand the environmental impact of your meals.
  • Water Impact Tracker: Track the water cost of your food choices.
  • Eco-Health Dashboard: Combines all your data into a simple, motivating overview.

How I Built It

I started with ChatGPT to help me brainstorm — identifying my needs, shaping the feature set, and mapping out implementation ideas like API usage, design structure, and tech stack.

Once I had a vision, I crafted a detailed mega prompt and used Bolt.new to generate the backend logic and file architecture. It built the foundational routes and structure in seconds. I integrated Supabase for auth and database, and used GitHub for version control — since AI can be unpredictable, it’s good to keep clean backups.

From there, I developed in an iterative cycle: generating prompts with ChatGPT, testing in Bolt, and refining with tools like Cursor when Bolt hit limitations. It was a full-stack solo sprint, and every tool helped me move faster and smarter.

Challenges

Debugging was one of the biggest hurdles. AI code can sometimes cascade into new errors, which led to wasted time and tokens. Eventually, I stepped in and debugged issues manually to keep things moving.

Accomplishments I'm Proud Of

As a solo high school developer, I’m proud of how much I was able to build in a short time. From concept to a working MVP, I proved to myself what’s possible when you combine motivation with the right tools.

What I Learned

This project showed me just how much technology is out there — and how AI can supercharge learning and building. I learned to manage an end-to-end project using modern tools, while staying resourceful and focused.

What’s Next for Kalynx

If things go well, I plan to take Kalynx beyond the hackathon. I want to keep improving it for myself, then eventually release it as a real product others can use — and maybe turn it into something bigger.

"I built this because I needed it. And I hope others who care about fitness, affordability, and the planet will find value in Kalynx too."
