Inspiration
This project has taken inspiration from a phenomenon we've observed: As international students who frequently cook, we often go to grocery stores to buy food. Our refrigerators commonly contain forgotten food or spoiled items., what could we do to reduce this food waste in real life?
What it does
FoodLoop is a smart app designed to reduce food waste by helping users organize their groceries and plan meals based on daily recipes. It allows people to manage their food purchases efficiently and avoid waste. FoodLoop also promotes community food sharing through its FoodTrading feature, where users can sell excess food via local community fridges or buy donated food from neighbors. By combining personal food management with a sustainable, community-driven approach, FoodLoop fosters a more eco-friendly and connected way of reducing food waste.
How we built it
We started with solid secondary research to knowning more about the context and online ethnography for down-to-earth and relating to real people, then we ideate and built prototype based on the insights we've got from the research
Challenges we ran into
The food waste issue is actually too complex and it can be considered a systematic problem but all we can do is more about helping ordinary people stick to sustainability lifestyles while rich people don't care
Accomplishments that we're proud of
we actually think we've developed something that can incentimize people and bring a sense of community
What we learned
one day is not enough to do proper research and solve problem
What's next for FoodLoop - design for reducing food waste
