Inspiration:
The team was inspired to create Foodle to solve the problem of finding the best nearby restaurants and takeout spots based on specific preferences. The team noticed that people often spend a lot of time searching for restaurants that fit their requirements, and they thought it would be beneficial to have an app that streamlines this process.
What it does:
Foodle is a web application that helps users find the best nearby restaurants and takeout spots based on their preferences. Users can input their location, cuisine preferences, budget, and other criteria, and Foodle will display the best options available.
How we built it:
The team used a combination of React, TypeScript, Google Firebase, Cohere AI, and Google Cloud Platform to build Foodle. The frontend was built with React and TypeScript, while the backend was handled by Google Firebase. The team integrated Cohere AI to make the app's recommendations more accurate and used Google Cloud Platform for the app's deployment.
Challenges we ran into:
The team faced several challenges during the development of Foodle, including technical difficulties in the frontend, such as styling the app accordingly and making it responsive. They also encountered challenges in the backend, such as making REST API calls. Integrating Cohere AI was another challenge, as the team had to learn how to work with a new tool and integrate it into the app.
Accomplishments that we're proud of:
The team is proud of building a full-stack web application that helps users find the best nearby restaurants and takeout spots based on their preferences. They are also proud of overcoming the various technical challenges they faced during the development process.
What we learned:
The team learned a lot about developing full-stack web applications with React, TypeScript, Google Firebase, Cohere AI, and Google Cloud Platform. They gained experience in integrating various tools and technologies, working with REST APIs, and deploying an app to a cloud platform.
What's next for Foodle:
In the future, the team plans to add more features to Foodle, such as personalized recommendations, user ratings and reviews, and social media integration. They also plan to expand Foodle's coverage to more cities and regions, making it easier for people to find the best restaurants and takeout spots wherever they are.
