India ranks 94 among 107 countries in the Global Hunger Index. Despite this grave hunger, 11,520 tonnes of food grains were wasted in the past four years due to poor maintenance. We have enough money to buy the food we love and we are even destroying them but there are people who r starving for food. So we decided to help them where we don't waste food and also help the people who are in need of food
What it does
Basically, it connects the donors and acceptors. Donors are the hotel owner, people who keep functions, and acceptors will be the orphanages, and organizations that help the needy. donors post the food they have and their location and acceptors can contact them. There are also additional features like Emergency mode etc.
How we built it
We designed our website using Figma. We built it using MERN Stack where we use MySQL instead of MongoDB.
Challenges we ran into
We had a lot of ideas and as a team communicating our individual ideas and producing them as one large output was a difficult task. We also felt it pretty difficult with react. though, we know HTML and CSS, we decided to do It in react cause we see this Git-X hackathon as an opportunity where we can learn new things and try them out. We find it difficult in connecting React and also using the MySQL workbench with Planetscale.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were able to come up with an idea that will help society and also we feel that people will stop wasting food and will be happy in helping people. We learned react, node, and also how to use the workbench, and we were able to develop a great design in under 40 hours. We were able to design at least a basic prototype in 40 hours cause this is our first hackathon.
What we learned
We learned a lot in web development, starting from HTML, and CSS to react, node js, and even SQL. We never thought we would be great at coming up with a design that is more user-friendly but we did learn that. We are very happy with this because we learned all these and try working them out in under 40 hours' time. We learned a lot in GitHub we explored a lot of features that we don't even know were in GitHub before. Thanks to the hackathon
What's next for Foodit?
We have planned to develop this as a complete website and make it public for the people to use, where they can use this to donate food to the needy and be a part of helping this wonderful Society.
