Inspiration
We were inspired by a simple yet pressing truth — people want to eat healthier, save money, and live sustainably, but the tools available don’t truly adapt to real life. Diet apps are rigid. Recipe apps are disconnected. And millions of homes throw away food simply because they forget what’s in their pantry.
Foodier was born from the idea of turning every kitchen into an intelligent wellness hub — one that knows what you have, what you like, and what you need next.
What it does
Foodier is a smart, personalised nutrition and pantry management platform that uses AI to simplify meal planning, reduce food waste, and improve wellness.
It:
Creates adaptive meal plans based on user progress, lifestyle, and pantry ingredients.
Suggests recipes using available items, with intelligent substitutions for missing or expired ones.
Tracks expiry dates and sends proactive “use-it-up” alerts.
Offers climate-aware tips, hydration reminders, and wellness insights.
Supports voice interaction and visual recipe generation for hands-free cooking.
In short — Foodier learns from you, evolves with you, and helps you eat better while wasting less.
How we built it
We built Foodier using a modular, AI-integrated architecture focused on speed, adaptability, and user experience:
Frontend: React + Vite/Next.js with Tailwind CSS for sleek, responsive UI.
Backend: FastAPI (Python) powering asynchronous APIs, AI integrations, and adaptive logic.
Database: SQLite for prototyping, PostgreSQL for scalable production.
AI Stack: OpenAI GPT for meal and recipe generation, Whisper for voice input, DALL·E for visual recipes.
Hosting: Vercel (frontend) + Render/Heroku (backend).
Extras: Fitness and wellness API integrations for holistic tracking.
Challenges we ran into
Creating an adaptive feedback system that updates plans intelligently without frustrating users.
Handling multi-modal input (text, image, voice) for pantry management.
Ensuring nutritional validity and safety across dietary restrictions and allergies.
