Inspiration
All of us in this group live off-campus this semester. And all of us "cook" at home. But as CS majors we generally get no time to cook. And when we do, most of our items are expired or we just don't have any. So we wanted to make a program that fetches recipes to make based on any ingredient you enter. And so we did!
What it does do
Through our website's search feature, you can find recipes for dishes you make at home with just the ingredients you enter into the search bar.
How we built it
We used mealDB API which stores a database of ingredients using which it can provide JSON objects with most of our project's functionality. We implemented a full stack project with a functioning backend along with the front end connected using AJAX and Flask learning from CSE115 and CSE116 classes.
Challenges we ran into
We had a hard time understanding the end result of the API functions. We also faced many challenges with our program runtime which is still embarrassingly slow.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Finished a full stack project as with quite little web development knowledge.
What we learned
We learned a lot about web APIs and how we can implement the APIs into our project. We learned to work with node.js, AJAX, and Bottle.
