Inspiration
Observing perfectly fine food being thrown away, while other people have difficulty accessing wholesome meals motivated me to develop a solution that fosters community, lowers food waste, and fosters human connection. In addition to bringing attention to the problem, I wanted to create a platform that actively works to find a solution.
What it does
With the goal of reducing food waste and promoting sustainability, FoodCircle is an online network that links communities and people. Through the platform's user-friendly design, users may find local food-sharing opportunities, exchange extra food, and list excess food.
How we built it
To build a user-friendly interface, I used HTML, CSS, and JavaScript in the construction of FoodCircle. To create a welcoming environment, the website has a simple, user-friendly design with pastel colors. Additionally, I included a small database to hold user-submitted dishes and food locations. Building dynamic functions like location-based food searches, interactive forms for food listings, and a community impact tracker were all part of the project.
Challenges we ran into
It took a lot of effort and repetition to connect the navbar buttons to the appropriate parts and resolve background problems. Some of the more complex features, such the interactive sections and animations, proved challenging to integrate as well
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I have effectively integrated an easy-to-use navigation system and responsive design to enable participation from people of various ages and technological proficiency. People can communicate and share food in their communities more easily thanks to the interactive forms and location-based searches. I also succeeded in making the website aesthetically pleasing and user-friendly.
What we learned
I gained knowledge in frontend design with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, as well as how to guarantee that the website is user-friendly for everyone. Gaining an understanding of the technical facets of integrating features like interactive components and responsive design was a worthwhile educational experience.
What's next for FoodCircle: Connect. Share. Sustain.
I want to include a social component where users may exchange recipes, experiences, and advice on living sustainably in the future. Advanced features like dashboards for monitoring both individual and community effect and real-time notifications for food-sharing opportunities are also on my list of things to develop.
