Inspiration

COVID-19 has made it difficult for low-income families and seniors to access food banks. In addition to long line-ups at existing food banks, individuals need to travel for longer periods of time due to transit delays. People need food but they also need to access it safely and in a way that upholds their dignity.

What it does

Freshco is a web app that allows food banks to input details of the recipients (addresses, allergies, etc.) into its database. It also allows food banks to keep track of their volunteer list and assign deliveries to such volunteers. On the recipient's end, they can also update their grocery list to personalize their delivered food.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Learning React (I've always wanted to learn this). Also, Luigi and Eric are proud of coding a web app in Python and learning how to work with frameworks!

What's next for Freshco

Our app is meant to be three-pronged: in addition to the organization’s side, we also want to allow food recipients to browse through the organization’s inventory (grocery-style). We also want to allow volunteers to create their own accounts and see and choose their deliveries.
