Houston Deserted

Food Access in Houston

Megan Xiao, Thomas Yeum, Adrienne Li, Angela Zhang

We are a group of freshmen submitting our interpretation on data of food deserts in Houston as our 2020 Rice Datathon project. We decided to focus on food deserts and its relationship with factors such as median family income and populations of racial groups. Low access to healthy, affordable food affects a large portion of the population but is often overlooked in government surveys and data.

Our analyses, visualizations, and policy proposals can be found at our Project Website

Our data was taken from the US Department of Agriculture: https://www.ers.usda.gov/data-products/food-access-research-atlas/download-the-data/
