Inspiration
In the past, one of our members had conducted research into food deserts in NC. Combined with another one of our members learning about how small logistical issues hinder food banks and their operations, we decided to tackle food banks operations.
What it does
Food2fork connects multiple different user types together in order to handle logistics and information exchange. For example, volunteers can sign up for shifts, and food banks receive more detailed information about the volunteers that are signing up as well as the ability to more easily re-contact them for future.
How we built it
We used Firebase as our backend software due to not having to write any server-side code. We used Android Studios and Kotlin in order to design our front-end and business logic.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into plenty of issues throughout the way, from idea generation to learning how to do front-end work when we had never done it before. We spent a lot of time on learning and synthesizing information in order to compensate for this.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of putting out a functional app as well as building an overall useful product.
What we learned
We learnt tons about project management, timelines, as well as technical skills such as front-end development.
What's next for Food2Fork
We are working to get this integrated into food banks in our local area!
