Feed Forward: Tackling Food Waste for a Better Tomorrow

What Inspired Me Most of the time, when I go out with friends for dinner or attend events like weddings and gatherings, I’ve noticed how much food gets wasted. I kept observing this repeatedly, and every time I stepped out of a restaurant, I would see people who hadn’t eaten for days. This made me think—what if the food that’s being wasted could somehow reach those in need? With this thought in mind, I started researching the issue in depth. After a lot of research, I discussed the idea with my friends, and together, we decided to turn it into a real project. That’s how Feed Forward was born.

What We Learned Throughout this journey, We learned about food waste management, logistics in food redistribution, and the legal and safety aspects of handling surplus food. we also gained experience in website development, user experience design, and the importance of community collaboration.

How We Built My Project We started by researching existing food redistribution models and identifying key pain points. Then, we developed a user-friendly website where food providers (such as hotels and event organizers) can list surplus food, and NGOs or individuals in need can request it. The website includes features like real-time availability updates, pickup scheduling, and a dashboard for tracking impact.

Challenges We Faced One of the biggest challenges was ensuring food safety and compliance with health regulations. Additionally, coordinating logistics between food donors and recipients proved to be complex. Finding volunteers and getting them to commit to the work was another major challenge. Since this project relies on people who are willing to step up and help, it took time to build a team that was both passionate and reliable. Encouraging participation from businesses was also difficult, as many were initially hesitant. Overcoming these hurdles required persistence, outreach, and refining the platform to make it seamless for all users.
